 JOB CREATION THROUGH SOYBEAN HAND MITTENS AND COTTON PICKING COATS

Cotton and Soybean are the major crops cultivated in Maharashtra.

Unfortunately, these crops pose great challenges when it is time for harvesting. At a full-grown stage, soybean plants are about 1.5 feet in height. While harvesting the crop needs to be uprooted or is cut close to the soil. Soybean plants grow only 1- ½ feet tall and it needs to uproot the plant or cut at the base manually. In either of the cases, the women laborers need to squat folding their knees, or have to bend down. Their posture is very unnatural and painful.  Soybean is harvested only after the plants get dried up. Fine hair-like spiny fibers grow on the surface of the cluster of beans, the stems and leaves as well. During harvesting the crop, the women laborers work for 7-8 hours a day and pick up the plants with naked hands. This task renders their hands absolutely cracked and bleeding. Despite the pain, the women collect the plants, tie those into bundles of 25-30 kg. Carry the bundles overhead to dump into the collective heap for further processing. This is not the end of their fight. There is always another threat in waiting in the guise of poisonous snakes and scorpions lying under the heaps of the harvested crops.  In the case of cotton, while picking cotton dry pods and stems scratches on their stomach and hands which gives a burning sensation. Also, women have to face sharp sunlight and dust. Many times they have to suffer from insect bite also. The women laborers return home facing all the troubles, in the evening. It is not an exaggerated fact that many times they fail to attend domestic charges with their bleeding hand and wind up the day half-starving.

 

Cotton is also a major crop in Maharashtra and women laborer need to collect cotton by handpicking method.  At the time of cotton picking, dry pods of cotton scratch over the hands and stomach of women, and give a burning sensation. It becomes very uneasy for women to ding any work also reduced their work efficiency.

By considering these problems of women while working in soybean and cotton, Department of Home Science, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sagroli Tq. Biloli Dist. Nanded has demonstrated the soybean harvesting mittens and cotton-picking coat technology to reduce the drudgery of farm women. These technologies are developed by AICRP, College of Community Science, VNMKV, Parbhani.

These mittens and cotton-picking coats protect farm women’s hands and body from pricking, scratching, and bleeding and also from poisonous insect biting and skin allergies.  These mittens could yield 34.95% more than the conventional harvesting method. 91.66% of the women reported, they had no injuries on hand nor did they suffer from any sort of allergies. While by using a cotton coat while picking cotton 27.8 % more cotton can collect in sac of a coat than the traditional method and 83.33 % of women reported very mild discomfort than the traditional method. Hence, the KVK, Sagroli did it best to propagate the use of hand gloves for this harvesting of soybean,  around all the villages in Nanded  District.

By considering these results of soybean hand mittens and cotton-picking coats for drudgery reduction, in the month of July 2020 Project on Climate Resilience in Agriculture, running under State Agriculture Department (In Marathwada and Vidarbha Zone) gave an order of 1563 cotton-picking coats and 1606 pairs of soybean hand mittens to Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sagroli for their Field demonstrations programme.  Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sagroli gave training to the Pragati textile, an enterprise run by a group of four women and also to 43 needy women from Sagroli and nearby villages. And order gets completed within one month. The rate of cotton picking coat is 270 Rs. while soybean hand mittens pair is 170 Rs. Stitching charges for cotton coat decided Rs.  80 per piece and Rs. 50 per pair. In this way, this group of 47 women who stitched these coats and mittens got a total amount of Rs 205340/- as stitching charges. As this period was COVID 19 lockdown period and many of these women do not have any income source to their hands, got income source through this order. Also, they were very satisfied with this work.

 

 

कृषी विज्ञान केंद्रामुळे लाभले प्रगती टेक्स्टाईल ला आर्थिक आधार....

मराठवाडा आणि विदर्भातील शेतकरी प्रामुख्याने नगदी पिके घेण्यावर भर देतात.त्यामुळे या विभागातील शेतकरी कापूस लागवडआणि सोयाबिन पेरणी मोठया प्रमाणात करतात. या पिकांच्या लागवडीपासून ते मळणी व कापूस वेचणी करण्यापर्यंतची सर्व कामे महिलांच्या मदतीने केले जाते.कापूस लागवड,औषध टाकणे,निंदणी करणे,कापूस वेचणे, ही कामे करतांना महिलांना मोठ्या प्रमाणांत शारीरिक कष्ट सहन करावे लागतात.कापूस ओटीमध्ये झोळीसारखे जमा करीत ७ते८तास ओझे वाहावे लागते.वाळलेल्या कापसाच्या झाडांची बोंडे हात, पाय,पोट या भागावर खरचटले जाऊन रक्त स्त्राव होतो.उन्हांत काम करण्याने चेहरा आणि हाता पायांची आग होते.सोयाबीन कंपनी करतांना हात, बोटे,तळहाटॉवर ओरखाडे पडून त्रास होतो, कापूस वाहून घेऊन जावे लागते.सोयाबीनचा भारा वाहून नेताना, अधिक कष्ट होतात, विंचू,साप यांची भीती सातत्याने काम करताना वाटते.या सर्व महिलांच्या कष्टप्रद कामाची प्रत्यक्ष पाहणी करून वसंतराव नाईक मराठवाडा कृषी विद्यापीथातील सामाजिक विज्ञान महाविद्यालयात यावर संशोधन केले.कापूस वेचणी आणि सोयाबीन कापणी च्या कामातून महिलांना सुरक्षितता मिळवून देतांना कापूस वेचणी कोट,सोयाबीन कापणी हातमोजे तयार करून त्याची प्रत्यक्ष वापर केला. व त्याचे प्रात्यक्षिक कृषी विज्ञान केंद्र सगरोळी जि. नांदेड याठिकाणी परिसरातील शेतकरी महिलांना, शेतकऱ्यांना प्रात्यक्षिक दाखवले.

या प्रत्यक्षिकांतून पुढील बाबी जाणवल्या-

१) कापूस वेचणी कोट वापरल्यामुळे महिलांचे संपूर्ण  शरीर झाकले जाते.

२) हे कोट पांढऱ्या रंगाचे  सुती  कापड असल्याने घाम शोषून घेते.

३) कोटाची बाह्या लांब असल्यामुळे हाताला सुरक्षितता मिळते.

४) कापूस वेचणी कोटाच्या समोरील बाजूस पिशवी सारखा भाग असून वेचलेला ६,७किलो कापूस जमा करता येतो. 

५) कापसाने भरलेल्या वजनाचा भार खांद्यावर असल्याने ओझे न होता ते सुलभ वाटते.

६) शारिरीक त्रास कमी होऊन सुरक्षितता जाणवतं त्यामुळे वेळेची बचत,कामाची गती,पैशांची बचत होते.

७) कापूस वेचणीच्या कोटाचे बंद सोडले असता  जमा केलेला कापूस सहज काढता येतो.

८) हा कोट अनेक कामात वापरण्यासाठी उपयुक्त आहे,फळे तोडणे,भाजीपाला काढणी,या कामी याचा वापर करू शकतो.

सोयाबीन कापणी  वेळी सुरक्षित हातमोजे- सोयाबीन कापणी करतांना होणाऱ्या त्रासापासून  हाताचे संरक्षण  व्हावे आणि काम करण्यासाठी उत्साह वाढतो.

१) सोयाबीन हातमोजे हे जीन्स कापडापासून तयार केल्याने सोयाबीनच्या सर्व कामांसाठी उपयुक्त आहे.

२) सोयाबीन कापणी करतांना हातमोजे असल्यामुळे काम अधिक वेगाने होते.

३) शारीरिक सुरक्षितता व गाजर गवताच्या अलर्जी पासून बचाव होतो.

४) कामात सुलभता होण्याच्या दृष्टीने हातमोजेला योग्य त्या ठिकाणी बेल्ट आणि वेलक्रोचा उपयोग केला आहे.

५) परीक्षणानुसार या हातमोजे वापरल्यामुळे३५ % अधिक  गतीनेमहिला सोयाबीनच्या काम करतात.यामुळे

शेतकरी महिलांसाठी होणारे  लाभ आणि फायदे लक्षात घेऊन ' नानाजी देशमुख कृषी संजीवनी प्रकल्प' (POCRA) कृषी विभाग महाराष्ट्र यांनी २०२० मध्ये कापूस व सोयाबीनच्या शेती शाळांकरिता मराठवाडा आणि विदर्भातील विभागासाठी एकूण १५५३ कापूस वेचणी कोट आणि १६०६ सोयाबीन कापणी हातमोजे उपलब्ध करून देण्याची मागणी संस्थेच्या कृषी विज्ञान केंद्र सगरोळी यांच्याकडे मागणी केली.

कृषी विज्ञान केंद्रांतर्गत प्रगती टेक्स्टाईल्स या विभागात कोट आणि हातमोजे शिलाईचे काम ऑगस्ट २०२० मध्ये सुरु झाले. प्रगती टेक्सटाईल मधील चार महिलांनी सगरोळी गावातील ५० शिवणकाम करणाऱ्या महिलांना कोट आणि हातमोजे शिलाईचे कृषी विज्ञान केंद्रातील गृहविज्ञान विभागाच्या मार्फत दिल्या गेले.कोविड १९ मुळे रिकाम्या वेळेचा महिलांनी सदुपयोग करीत ५० महिलांना घरी रोजगार मिळवून दिला. प्रति कापूस वेचणी कोटाची किंमत रुपये २७० /- तर सोयाबीन कापणी हातमोजे प्रति रुपये १७०/-प्रमाणे साधारणपणे रुपये ४१९३१०/- कापूस वेचणी कोट आणि  रुपये २७३०२० /- एवढया किंमतीचे  शिलाईचे साहित्य महिलांनी तयार केले.मराठवाडा आणि विदर्भातील पोकरा प्रकल्पांना त्यांच्या मागणी प्रमाणे वितरित करण्यात आले. या सर्व  शिवणकाम करणाऱ्या  प्रत्येक महिलांना कोट शिलाईसाठी प्रति नग- रुपये ८०/- तर हातमोजेसाठी प्रति नग रुपये ५०/- या प्रमाणे प्रगती टेक्स्टाईलच्या या सामूहिक कार्यातून एकूण रुपये २,०४,५४०/- शिवनकामातून दोन महिन्यात ही मागणी पूर्ण करून एक विश्वास निर्माण केला आहे.महिलांना या कामात संघटित करून वेळेचा सदुपयोग आणि कुटुंबास आर्थिक आधार मिळवून दिल्याने सर्व महिलानी आनंद व समाधान व्यक्त केले.या कामात गृहविज्ञान तज्ञ माधुरी रेवणवार यांचे उल्लेखनीय सहकार्य मिळाले.
